Rescue Can for Lifeguards

Now that summer is approaching (finally) it's time to think about water safety. At DEALMED we just added a new lifeguard rescue can. As people hit the ocean for fun, there are also hazards. Quality is very important as these are the first line of defense for many lifeguards. Most never leave their posts without one in hand.

These are the original rescue cans developed by Bob Burnside-L.A. county chief over 30 years ago. They are essential tools for lifeguards.

Many ocean lifeguards prefer the rescue can over a rescue tube. One, a rescue can fit more people than a rescue tube. A rescue can is able to support more than one person, depending on the condition of the victims and the water.  The choice though depends on conditions and how rough the surf is.

Care of the plastic can is minimal.  You should check the can, line, and shoulder strap for any signs of excess wear or cuts. Should there be such signs, you should get a new can. These are high quality cans made with the strongest cross-linked polyethylene. The hand grips are made to reduce slipping.  They are made with heavy duty 2" nylon strap and 10’ of 11/32" line.
