Electrosurgical devices are often used by surgeons to help stem blood loss during an operation or in outpatient procedures. They're most often used for dermatological, gynecological, cardiac, plastic, ocular, spine, ENT, orthopedic, urological, neurosurgical and general surgical procedures. They're also used by dentists and vets.
Some doctors call them "Bovies," after Aaron Bovie, the inventor. Even after 75 years this device remains a fundamental tool in the practice of surgery.
Electrosurgery is performed using an Electrosurgical Generator. Some models come with foot units and adjustable volume control. They operate by applying a high-frequency electric current to cut, coagulate, desiccate, or fulgurate tissue. The electrosurgery accessories and kits come in disposable and reusable varieties.
It's vital to have well-designed ESU equipment and to maintain it well.
